Polish vehicle manufacturer PESA equips PKP Intercity carriages with Antonics railway antennas

In the past 3 years, the systems integrator LEDATEL equipped a total of 370 PKP Intercity carriages from the vehicle manufacturer PESA with cutting-edge dual-polarized railway antennas from Antonics. Until a few years ago, the industry primarily relied on outdated technology, prompting the need for modernization.

Unique railway antennas that convince

LEDATEL specializes in distributing communication technology for the industrial, transport, and logistics sectors in Poland. Apart from systems for train traffic, LEDATEL supplies components that enable passengers to use their electronic devices, thus enhancing their quality of life during train journeys. Following a constructive encounter at CeBIT, the Polish company has collaborated with Antonics for ten years, selling its state-of-the-art railway and vehicle antennas in the Polish market.

These antennas were chosen, among other reasons, for their unique design and exceptionally low profile of 40 to 60 mm. In addition to the antennas' innovative features, LEDATEL and Antonics were able to convince the vehicle manufacturer PESA with their reliability and excellent customer service.

Train antennas - as unique as each project

ANTONICS train antennas offer extremely flat and customizable features tailored to each project. The ANTONICS OmPlecs Multiband Technology enables a reduction in rooftop antennas. With the capacity for up to 13 connectors in a single antenna, substantial cost reductions benefit end customers. Additionally, the unique ANTONICS technology eliminates the need for costly splitters and couplers, making the products exceptionally cost-effective.

Polish railways on the path to a digital future

Railway vehicles have replaced offices and living rooms for many passengers during travel time. In addition to air-conditioned carriages and comfortable seating, uninterrupted Wi-Fi reception is expected to enable phone calls, internet browsing, watching series, online shopping, and much more.

In recent years, to enhance passenger comfort, 370 PKP Intercity carriages by PESA have undergone extensive repairs, modernization, and have been equipped with cutting-edge technology. These digital solutions also support the vehicle control of the carriages and enhance their safety.

High-performance railway antennas are a prerequisite for an uninterrupted network on rails. These antennas establish a stable connection via mobile communication, functioning reliably even in adverse conditions due to cross-polarized antenna elements and can receive dual polarizations.

Antennas from Antonics' OmPlecs® series are built and designed without lossy components such as ceramics or printed circuit boards. This significantly increases efficiency, antenna gain, and service life. Thanks to OmPlecs® multi-band technology, the total number of antennas required on the vehicle roof can be reduced and additional costs saved. Another advantage of the cross-polarized multi-band antennas lies in the selective coupling of the respective frequency range, significantly increasing the efficiency of individual bands compared to conventional multi-band broadband concepts. This eliminates the need for costly splitters, contributing to a more cost-effective operation.

Individual consultation for seamless project success

ANTONICS provided intensive consulting for the project and antenna selection. "To meet the requirements, we generally don’t have to develop a custom antenna but could choose the suitable solution from our extensive portfolio developed over the past 15 years," says René Roeder, CTO of ANTONICS GmbH. After thorough consultation and antenna training with LEDATEL and PESA, various cross-polarized multi-band antennas for LTE MIMO 4x4, WiFi, GNSS, and DVB-T were suggested, perfectly meeting the requirements.

ANTONICS' take:

In meeting the specified requirements, we typically don't need to develop a custom antenna. Instead, we can select the suitable solution from our extensive portfolio developed over the past 15 years.
