Antonics x Unwired Networks Success Story

A poor internet connection on the train, unclear announcements, and uncertainty about the number of passengers on board - these are challenges of the transportation transition. However, Unwired and Antonics have jointly developed technology to address precisely these issues.

Outstanding performance: ANTONICS innovations combined with cutting-edge network systems

Since 2017, ANTONICS and Unwired Networks have been collaborating and have jointly completed over 30 projects. With the Unwired Edge Cloud, Unwired Networks delivers a state-of-the-art connectivity platform for Edge networks. The 360° platform not only offers excellent high-speed WiFi for passengers and staff but also provides top-tier network management: Effortlessly orchestrate software-defined networks, centrally manage device administration through an intuitive web interface, and leverage the full potential of existing network devices through container-based virtualization.

The hardware-agnostic, cloud-based solution with a strict API-first approach is well-suited to complement the high connectivity needs of both the public and private transportation sectors, especially when combined with the innovative antennas and tailored communication solutions from ANTONICS.

ANTONICS' perspective

Well equipped with ANTONICS

Some of the successful projects include the Niederrhein Netz, Ruhr-Sieg-Netz II, WestfalenBahn, Elbe-Spree network, and the S-Bahn Bremen. These were realized in collaboration with various operators such as Abellio GmbH, the Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn GmbH (ODEG), and S-Bahn Bremen, along with vehicle manufacturers like Siemens, Stadler, MAN, and other service providers including Talbot Services.

In 2021, ANTONICS ensured top-notch connections for the Regio-S-Bahn Bremen with state-of-the-art train antennas. After the trains were refurbished and modernized, 104 powerful 100-58-10-05.54 OmPlecs-TOP 200 MF-05 -5- 5G MIMO, 4x4 LTE+GPS antennas were installed, along with 55 advanced 100-57-61-02.4 OmPlecs-TOP 90 RAIL WiFi 2.4-5.8_SMA MIMO antennas for the train interiors (indoor; WLAN Top90). Additionally, 630 cables provided by ANTONICS were used, ensuring seamless connectivity.

Successful abroad

The collaboration between ANTONICS and Unwired Networks is not limited to Germany alone. Together, projects have already been implemented in Austria, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, aiming to modernize individual vehicles and large fleets of over 100 vehicles for the digital age. The result: WiFi for staff and passengers during travel allowing fast browsing and mobile work, a passenger portal with a comprehensive offering including real-time route information, as well as an entertainment portal to make every train journey more enjoyable. Additionally, this contributes to increased customer satisfaction. Real-time updates about possible connecting routes along with clear, understandable announcements further enhance the service experience.

Whether it's virtualizing additional comfort systems, network management, or data handling such as for video cameras - in collaboration with the state-of-the-art antennas from ANTONICS, Unwired Networks can offer projects comprehensively and standardized. The latter simplifies integration and maintenance.

The partnership between Antonics and Unwired Networks is evidence of innovations in the transportation sector. Their joint efforts have not only tackled challenges in public transportation but also propelled solutions that enhance connectivity standards. Through their technological advancements and collaborative projects, they have paved the way for a smoother and more efficient travel experience, setting a benchmark for future industry endeavors.
